Season 12 Division 1 Stats and Facts

Division 1 sewn up before the season is started or is there hope for others.

Usual disclaimer. This is stats based only, manager skill is not taken into account, nor is squad building ability or future transfers.

I make a jusdgement on the most likely position of most players and if needed a mild adjustment if a club has lots of players in one position who can’t play or their lowest player from the top18 is well below that of the average squad.

ETOT which is the ranking uses the relative importance of each factor based on reasearch from the first few seasons.

It is no surprise that Barcelona lead the rankings but they are not dominant in all categories. They may be best in attack but can now be challenged at the back or in midfield ( depending on their formation ). Now obviously they can switch it around and go for more possession and less attack but so can you!.

Chelsea are a near match to Barcelona and superior in some areas with more depth, 2 or 3 injuries to Barcelona could turn their season on its head.

Juventus have the best defensive set up and should finish 3rd. Bayern still have a decent midfield and strong keeper , so should look to match Barcelona in those areas.

Dortmund should challenge this year, with PSG and Real Madrid having the depth to see them through injuries.

I would expect Anderlechts strong attack to see them to a higher finishing position and Roma to put up a good cup run.

If you are in the lowest four in the rankings in D1 you have a 75% chance of relegation.  223.8 was the cut off for relegation which means we a have a very obvious set of contenders well below the quality of the rest of the division.

Hamburg , Basel and Valencia look set for certain relegation  Schalke have depth and could escape, Liverpool have quality but no depth and must escape injury.
