BREAKING NEWS straight from the hotel room!

Aston Villa players relaxing in the hotel, ready to go to the training ground.

Micah Richards- Tomas, switch on the TV mate, we all want to watch the Top 100 preview for the opening game today.

Tomas Kalas- Sure captain, I'm onto it.

Gabriel Agbonlahor- I heard the Chievo Verona boss was selling some mug.

Carlos Sanchez- What mug? I'd like one. Preferably with our gaffer's face.

Agbonlahor- Oh shut up. Some Argentinian called Scocco.

Richards- Feeling insecure Gabby?

Silencing Scocco and the media
Agbonlahor- Not all skipper. I'm sure no Scocco can be better than me.

Jordan Ayew (coughing)- Whats that on the TV? Scocco is on the way to....(squinting) Aston Villa.

Agbonlahor- ha! hahaha! A yew joking?

Richards- yeah, and it says he will be joining us soon.

(phone rings, Agbonlahor picks up)

What? You're selling me for the mug?
Hello boss, I'd like to say that no Scocco can be better than me, I love this club, I love Micah, I love the groundsman, I love everything. What do you have to say?

Rahul W- Pack your bags.

Agbonlahor- Why? Going for a holiday together eh? Just the both of us? I like it.

Rahul W- Yup. A permanent, one-way holiday for you. All the way to Bolton. Have fun.

Agbonlahor- Oh yay...um..what? Hello?

(line cuts)

(Hotel staff calls)

The good ol' days
This is to inform you Mr. Gabriel that you are now evicted out of the hotel. Goodbye.

(everyone in the room laughing)

Richards- HAHAHAH, so long Gabriel 'better than Scocco' hahahaha. Looking forward to play with the Scocco.

(Ten minutes later, Agbonlahor finds himself next to the Lord. The one and only. Emile. Heskey. Nothing more to say. Scocco is touching down at Villa soon, while Agbonlahor has been whisked to Bolton. The rest of the squad remain pumped up for today's game. Let's hope they win, otherwise we might have to call Heskey. Lol.)

-~-

When you hear you are going to meet Rahul W
As said yesterday, a new signing may have been arriving. Well, didn't expect it to be Ignacio Scocco but it is. For 5.7 mil, it is a great deal and we are very happy with the deal. Won't arrive in time for today's game, but maybe for the game on Thursday. He'll have to prove himself in training though. Ayew is no mug. Still, exciting signing. Thanks to the Chievo Verona boss.

Good luck to everyone for the first game of the new season.

Cheers!

PS- My humour is bad, I know, but it's 10pm here and I can't think of anything better at this time of the day. Haha.

About the Gameworld Owner & good luck for season 2

Good evening one and all, on the eve of the kick off of season 2 and numerous wonderful blog posts that seem to have brought in extremely higher than usual interest, I thought it was time to put together my first (not 100%) football blog.

Well, for those of you who don't really know me yet, my name is Frank Hirst mostly to friends, but Fran Hirst to family. I'm 31 and live in our house with my partner Hayley & 3 year old son, Finley, I say partner as Hayley refuses to get married as her mum has been married 3 times. I work for a tool wholesaler in the office, in sales and design offer sheets in marketing and Hayley is a hair dresser.
I am a big Liverpool fan and have spent my whole life over the Mersey on the Wirral, so spent my youth going to Tranmere games for £3 per game in Tranmere's golden era! Even though I have always supported Liverpool, I had a short flirt with Sheffield Wednesday because of David Hirst, and back in 2007, I found out that my grandad (who died the year before I was born) was born in Genoa and so I took Genoa into my heart nearly as much as Liverpool!
Getting Finley to adopt Genoa will probably be a lot tougher than Liverpool if we carry on like we have been this season, but there's no way he could support any other team than Liverpool with me and both his grandad's encouraging him :)
Me and my boy in Almeria last summer
Finley's christening with my dad, Hayley, my mum and me
When I created Top100, I was looking to create a "blog gameworld". I know not every manager has the time or sometimes feels they don't have the literary skills to contribute, but I must give thanks to all the people who have contributed throughout season 1 and will continue to in the future. Not only do we have all these insightful blogs, funny blogs, but we have team of the week (every single game week) and many awards that are all voted for by the gameworld managers.
With regards to the update, in the 7 years that I have been on SM, there has only been 1 other time when I was close to quitting and that was when they started creating 2-3 gold worlds every week, as Mr Senior advised, worlds were becoming boring, you may as well have been playing football manager!
And finally, good luck to everyone for the season ahead, let's continue to make thud the number 1 gameworld on SM!

Professor Algie Bra of the University of Brest ( PhDD) analyses the facts and figures of each team in division 1.

I have looked at the best players in each of the key positions, and averaged their rating. Where a player could start in more than one position I have made a common sense judgement of where they are likely to play.  Top 15 is the average of the best 15 excluding multiple keepers ,with the same for Top 21.

As you can see on all counts Barcelona,  Bayern and Real Madrid , should be the dominant teams in the division.  It should therefore be seen as an abject failure if they finish outside the top 5.

Atletico , Juventus, Chelsea and Man Utd all have a squad capable of winning the league. I would expect Juventus and Chelsea to challenge earlier in the season with Atletico and Man Utd challenging more as the season progresses.

Arsenal , Man City and Inter are the 3 remaining teams without an obvious chink in the armour needed in the top flight. They can put out a solid 90 rated team week in week out.  What they lack though is the stength in depth throughout the squad to guarantee a top 5 finish. However don't be surprised if one of these teams challenges for the top spot, but likewise if injuries are cruel they could struggle to avoid the chop.

Lazio are somewhat of an anomaly, a weaker overall side but a great depth to the squad. Could they be the surprise package this year?

Porto, Milan,  Liverpool, Leverkeusen and Valencia don't really have that star player or 2 needed to challenge. They should however be confident of surviving in the top flight.  Valenica , Leverkeusen and Porto though will not want to get into an early season scrap for relegation as they simply do not have the reserves needed to fight off the teams beneath them.

Fiorentina, Fenerbache and Lyon will be fighting for survival all season, Lyon have depth but lack quality,  Fenerbache and Fiorentina will be looking at their front line to score more than their defensive line let in.

Seville look like firm favourites to go down.

THE THURSDAY BLOG Vol 2 No 1

Good afternoon guys and welcome to a new season of Thursday blogs which will run on a Thursday obviously except this Saturday special. There has not been much happening within the Kinnear family these past days with almost everything going smoothly. Everyone is back at work. I am bus driving, which isn’t going great due to a certain person that sorts out the shifts. In a nutshell, he is out of his depth and making a mess of everything and upsetting a lot of people. I would think more of him if he just held up his hands and admitted he couldn’t do the job and went back to his job in the traffic office. Anyway, there is not anything interesting in that. Alison, my wife, is back at her job of assessing people who claim for PIP or as it used to be known DLA. She is a nurse by profession but just doesn’t have the legs to be pacing the wards anymore so when this opportunity arose, she grabbed it with both hands. The girls are also back at work with Elise working in the offices of Jewson, the DIY place, taking payments from companies with accounts, as well as trying to look after her dressage horse, and Janene continuing with her horse stuff of groom to show jumper Martin Arnott and, of course, competing in competitions of her own.

Elise and her horse Riz before a dressage competition in Kilmarnock

Talking of Janene, I fell out with her after she angered me during the week. As you may remember she has this new boyfriend, which is now official she says (yeah, and that helped my mood with her), Ross/Russ/Shrek or whatever his name is. On Wednesday he was over in the house again and as always they went into her room to watch TV and once again he was here to stupid o'clock. That is all fair and well I suppose, except, yip except that she didn't go to work Thursday morning. Now, I didn't even realise this for a while. Thursday is my day off and here was me thinking I had the house to myself for the first time in ages. I had set out my day already, which was having a long lie, then lying in bed fixing out my SM teams for the Thursday night games. In the afternoon I had a couple of errands to do, being putting a cheque into the bank and picking up prescriptions for Alison and Janene. Tidying the house was also on the list since it hadn't been done much since Christmas. Everything was going to plan. I had finished doing the team selections and was now getting up to do a bit of tidying. I done the kitchen, pretty well I might add for a bloke, and was now folding the clothes that had been washed and dried. Once that was done I would take each pile of washing up to the relevant bedroom. I was taking Janene's pile upstairs and opened her bedroom door only to see her lying in her bed. What the...? She was half awake and I asked her why she wasn't at work. The standard answer of 'I'm not feeling well' followed but I knew that she had been too tired to get up to go. Her 'not well' answer was of course followed by the usual cough and splutter as if to prove that she wasn't well enough.

Myself with the absent from work Janene

I knew she was faking but what can you do. It's no use saying if it happens again then her boyfriend wont be allowed to stay so late as I will be overruled by 'Mummy' who treats her like she was at death's door every time she says she is ill. To be fair, this is because Janene has brittle asthma and about 8 years ago she had a respiratory arrest and was rushed to hospital. It didn't take long to get her back to breathing but it is still a thing that will stay with Alison forever. I, fortunately, missed the majority of the drama as I was doing a backshift but one of the managers actually came out to me and finished my shift after telling me what was going on. By time I got to the hospital everything was steady and she made a good recovery. Ever since this night, Alison panics if Janene gets so much as a cold or anything that can affect her breathing. Steroids are usually the best thing for her when she is struggling with her inhalers. Anyway, I still wasn't happy that she didn't make work and she knows it. Of course, then I am told that Ross/Russ/Shrek is officially her boyfriend now which didn't help matters. I will get used to it eventually but it takes time as I am very overprotective of her.
Apart from that, there is nothing else of interest and the only other new thing is that we have booked our holiday for the summer. We have been to Marmaris in Turkey for 5 years in a row with a one year break somewhere in between but we have decided to try somewhere else this year. After looking through some places, with the only stipulation being nowhere with the Euro, we have booked up for Bulgaria. Never been but it looks ok and the hotel looks nice. Sunny Beach is the resort and that seems to be the most popular. If any of you have ever been to Bulgaria it would be helpful if you could tell me anything about it.
So that's real life until next time and, hopefully, there will be a bit more happening in our life.

I had the opportunity to go to the World Cup when Romania offered me the chance to manage them at GERMANY2015 but I decided to turn it down due to wanting to try and get some deals done at Club Brugge for the new season. I did, however, go to games in Germany to run the rule over some players that I thought could improve the team. My first stop was Berlin where I went to watch Ghana v Estonia. There are not many Estonian players known throughout the world but if they were good enough to qualify for the main tournament then maybe I could unearth a rough diamond. This was not to be however with Ghana winning 2-1 and dominating the match. Estonia's players looked to be shocked at even being here and I am sure did not play to their capabilities. Players like Asamoah and Ayew impressed for Ghana but they are well out of our price range. Now, that was my first game and as it turned out, my last. I met an old buddy from my younger days and we went for one beer, I am telling you it was one beer, or that was what the plan was anyway. It turned out to be 6 day bender as we rolled from pub to pub. I don't remember much about it and if I met any of you fellow managers out there then I apologise for whatever I called you.

A frauline brings my mate's order to our table

One thing that does come to mind though was a couple of German men coming over to us and asking me to sober up because some guy Adolf was a great fan of mine and wanted to meet me. Now, normally I would only be too happy to meet any fans but this was 4 days into the bender and who the hell was this Adolf guy anyway? I told the guys in my best French to fuck off and tell Adolf that I was far too drunk to be nice to anyone. It was when I was back in Belgium that I seen the video that Beddows had produced that I realised who Adolf was. He looks a grumpy bastard but is probably harmless. It was a good World Cup that was won by ermmm, some team that shoudnt have won it. My adopted homeland, Belgium, lost on penalties in the Final and I am very disappointed to have missed that game and give the team some support. Maybe if Gareth Crisp had selected a couple of Brugges players they would have won the damn thing but c'est la vie as they say in the Cameroon.

Pre-season at Club Brugges has went quite well and a lot better than trying to bring new players in for sure. One thing about this Top 100 set up is how difficult it is to bring in any quality. Good external players are very hard to find and it is really all about approaching other managers in the hope of tying up a deal. Unfortunately, my escapades at the World Cup meant I didn't have much time to search for possible additions and I actually expected to be called into the Chairman's office to explain myself but since the Chairman spent the off season in a Texas whorehouse, he is none the wiser. I have managed to bring in two players so far. The first one was Danish international Lasse Schone. He is 29 years old and has a wealth of experience which can only help us on and off the park. He played 27 games for Ajax last season, scoring 7 goals and I will be looking for at least the same off him in what is a lower division. After the play off Final defeat to River Plate, a game we deserved to win in my opinion, I thought the players chins would be down but Lasse has been a breath of fresh air around here and his enthusiasm has rubbed off on the other players and they are dying to get out on the park and determined to make sure that this is a promotion season.
The other player we have brought in is French youngster Wesley Said. He is a 20 year old striker and I have brought him to the club to spearhead this seasons Youth Cup challenge. I have high hopes for this kid and I received glowing reports about him and if he scores a few goals in the Youth Cup then it will be money well spent. I have no finished in the transfer market but budget restrictions means I will have to sell first. We have already spoke with the players that we feel could do better by moving to another club and if that can happen quickly then I should have another one addition to the squad in a week or two.

The boys are ready for the new season

The pre-season friendlies have not brought great results but I never take these games seriously and leave it to my backroom staff to take the reins for them. For the record we have lost 3 to Napoli (0-2), Chievo (1-2) and Hellas Verona (0-1) and have won 2-1 against FK Partizan. All 4 games have been away but tonight we have our only home friendly and I will take charge for this one with Sporting Lisbon providing the opposition.
The new season proper gets underway tomorrow night and we could not have asked for a tougher start as far as I am concerned. Standard Liege are the visitors and the game is a sell out already. We have the added pressure of starting the season as favourites for the title at a ridiculous 1/8 and we will be a big target for other clubs. We didn't score a goal against Standard Liege last season, drawing 0-0 at home and losing 2-0 in Liege, and that is something we will have to rectify. A win is important in the opening game to give the players a lift but we do have a history of starting slowly and are usually somewhere between half way and bottom of the table after the first few games. This season would be a good time to change that and we will be going all out for three points tomorrow night.

Before I go I would like to credit David Senior for a superb first contribution to the blog. His journey through SM certainly brought back some things that I went through and I am sure many of you have been through the same. It's good to have David in this world and I look forward to reading future contributions from him.

That's it for today and I would like to wish everyone luck for the new season and hopefully we can continue to make the Top 100 as good as it already is. SM themselves certainly know about it and it has made it onto their twitter feed and their facebook page so let's keep it as one of the best, if not the best, world in the game.

Thanks for taking the time to read

Ciao

Roy Keane Interview

The Roy Keane Interview about the coming season…

Roy Keane was interviewed by Sky sports Jim White…

Jim. What are your goals for this season.
Keane. To win the lot, everything !  even that mickey mouse youth cup Beddows is sorting out !

Jim. Who are your main rivals for next season, and what do you think about each team. Lets start with Barcelona…
Keane. Well i think there manager Scott Mckenzie is a plank. Who in there right mind sells Neymar, i mean,,,Come on , seriously ! Position - 4th

Jim. Man Utd..
Keane. Since that old f***** retired, i love Utd again .In fact, if Utd needed to beat my team to win the league, id let them. One day that job will be mine, and ill ban every prawn sandwich eating day tripper. Position- 2nd

Jim. Bayern Munich.
Keane. Real Madrid went there and won, For a manager to let his team get beat 8-1 at home, he should of resigned there and then. Shocking ! Look at yourself in the mirror Gursimran Brar ! Position - 7th

Jim. Juventus.
Keane. Are they in division 1, did'nt realize.  If there was an over age Cup, Juventus would win every year. Position - 5th

Jim. Atletico Madrid
Keane. The Doctor eh  ! Well someone better call him one, cause he needs help with that team , bottom half of table for sure. Position -  13th

Jim.Arsenal
Keane. Another team i didnt notice last season, need to do better ! Position - 6th

Jim. Chelsea.
Keane. You mean Chelski Jim ! Cockney team yet again the Capital of failure ! Position 8th

Jim. Ac Milan
Keane. This will be Beddows last season in charge, he will be sacked at the end of the season after finishing in the bottom 2. He will then  get a division 5 job and take Ballotelli with him !
Position - 20th

Jim. Man City
Keane. I predict the camel jockeys will pull out of Man City and they will change the name of the stadium to the " Empty-had". Relegation for City ! Position - 19th

Jim. Lyon.
Keane. Oh the mad Giovanni Cabrioli ! Ive had around 10 loan bids for my youth players off him. Each time an abusive message in reply when i declined each loan." VAFFANCULO!" was his favourite word. Position - 18th

Jim. Liverpool
Keane. No chance ! There's more chance of Ac Milan winning the treble Jim.Position -10th

Jim. Some people might think you come across arrogant Roy.
Keane. I wouldnt say im arrogant Jim, just better that the rest thats all.

Jim. I noticed Real Madrid havent made a Marque signing this season.
Keane. Its well documented i was looking to offload Lewandowski, so i could push Neymar up front. But then i thought f*** it. Im going to make those managers who put in embarrassing bids for Lewandowski pay, and regret not signing him. Im going to try and play Neymar and Lewandowski up front. I'll experiment with playing both of them against a small club first, like Ac Milan .
Ive got to go now Jim, ive got a 6 pointer against Atletico Madrid sunday.

Jim. A six pointer, the season has'nt started yet, so why do you call it a 6 pointer Roy !
Keane. Its beacause Real Madrid are guaranteed to get 6 points home and away against Atletico Jim.

Interview all done in good faith lads ;-)

All the best for Season 2 in the best gameworld in SM...

Becoming Olympiacos Manager - a Greek Tragedy or a Managers Renaissance?

After parachuting into Top100 in late December and having had the opportunity to get a feel for the league I thought by way of introduction it may be a good idea to provide a bit of my SM background, my experience of SM generally and how I came to join the Top100, in the process I hope it will also give a perspective on the league from the point of view of a newcomer such as myself.

I will apologise in advance if it’s a bit long winded, please bear with me, I have a tendency to get writers diarrhea.

As an ex-amateur footballer and semi-professional referee I have always loved the game of football and joined SM in October 2012, which is a story in itself that can wait for another day.  On joining I eagerly clicked “Add New Club”, selected my home club Hudds Town, picked the first league that came up and away I went.

The first thing that struck me was where are all the managers? The league had no more than a dozen, typically those that there were had plumped for the big clubs with only me and Bristol City pottering about below Div 1.

SM had claimed to have hundreds of leagues packed with thousands of active managers, all I could see was tumbleweed and cobwebs.

Whilst still tinkering around with my Hudds team I suddenly thought go European, maybe that’s where all the managers are at. I ended up managing Marseille in a custom European league of 4 divisions of 10 clubs with nearly 100% manager take up. This is more like it I thought, then one by one managers hit their 30 day failed login markers and off they started to pop.

This I learned was the norm across SM leagues, new managers fresh to the game would invariably grab the first big club they could lay their hands on, get bored after a few days and never login again.

Then the second thing struck me, nobody chats, there was this News Feed thing that showed automated messages and had the facility for you to post messages but nobody used it. I would send out the odd pieces of bait, but hardly ever a bite, just more tumbleweed.

By this time I had a couple of people on my friends list with whom I’d chat through PM’s but the News Feed always seemed to remain a quarantine area. Where was the banter, the friendly rivalry, the fun!

Maybe it all happens in the Gold leagues! So I pay my money and join a league, more managers for sure but still more tumbleweed. Well at least I had a Gold Shortlist, which was the only benefit I could really see for my outlay, I dabbled with International teams but the results appeared to be determined by a monkey on a random number generator so I soon lost interest in that.

With two exceptions I have always selected lower division teams when joining a league, enjoying the challenge and mechanics of improving the squad and progressing through the leagues whilst continuing to see the new managers going straight for the top clubs.

I had also begun setting myself restrictions with my teams, including building an entirely French squad at Marseille, a severe handicap despite which I managed a few titles, I had an Accrington Stanley squad which I restricted to being entirely U21. This gave me my third realisation, that my enjoyment of the game was not the game itself it was what I was making of the game.

Becoming disillusioned I decided to start dropping clubs, being conscientious by nature I would see seasons out before resigning, with one exception where I resigned from a league when SM refused to deal with a manager who was so blatantly cheating Stevie Wonder could have seen it.

One of these leagues was English Championship 222 where I had managed to drag another Accrington team from Div 4 to Div 1. This league was quite well populated, though not particularly friendly, with a large number of player “hoggers” which made it difficult to improve your squad. Having made the top flight and unable to strengthen relegation was immediate, my decision to quit came part way through the next season, not wanting the few golden nuggets in my squad to go to the vultures that circle when a club becomes un-managed I either sold them external or offered them to the few other managers I got along with. One of these being Jens Mourinho~Jairzinho, the manager of Celtic here at Top100.

Then came Dark December and the SM update. I logged in thinking Walt Disney had bought out SM. The new interface was clunky and cumbersome, nothing about it was user friendly. I spent 5 minutes trying to find the result of the match for the first club I’d logged into and then another 5 trying to find the league table, what a monstrosity.

Then to I discover the “engine improvements”, increased wages, positional changes, hiked player values, etc. etc. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for making the game more realistic but to unleash this in one fell swoop without any warning or consultation with your customers smacked to me of business incompetence of the highest order.

I ventured to the SM Forum to see what was being said, I was aware of its existence though I never registered, like most forums it is a place where good ideas go to die and sycophants are born. Over the next days I continued to read the feedback, with few exceptions bad, with few exceptions deleted. SM had designed a horse by committee and now took exception to their customers pointing out that it had humps on its back.

Learning to deal with the new Mickey Mouse interface was one thing, having your clubs which you had managed to be financially stable suddenly start leaching millions each week and squads you had painstakingly built up no longer suited to your preferred formations was another. It was time to leave.

Then the option to be able to use the old interface suddenly appeared I decided to wind down each club to the end of their seasons rather than binning SM full stop.

It was at this time I PM’d Jens to comment on how I thought the “hoggers” in 222 would be reacting and he mentioned Top100, a lively league, with 100% uptake, could this be a last bastion refuge I thought?

Worth I try so I PM’d Frank who put me on the waiting list and mentioned the Blog, I read through the articles with interest and remember Gordons “Thursday Blog” particularly striking a chord for its accurate comments and his opinions on the SM update.

Then I received the job offer from Frank, Olympiakos!!!! My instant reaction was what shit on a stick is this, do I turn it down and write off SM go buy an Xbox and hope they put COD4 back on the server? I think better of it and accept, hmmm bottom of Division 4 and relegated with 1 game to play, do I press resign button and reach for the Argos catalogue? Then I think what better way to recapture some enthusiasm for the game than a challenge like this, even better when every player on your Gold Shortlist is taken, venture into territory new, back to researching and trawling player and club lists and get your game head back on!!!!!

I can say without doubt joining Top100 has stopped me from leaving the game altogether and is the best decision I’ve made at SM since buying Busquets the day before the update when his value went up by £20 million !!!!!

This league is a diamond in the rough, the people, the banter, the fun, it’s what this game should be and a model for SM to aspire to. The time and effort that Frank, Stephen and everyone of you put into contributing to make this an active, vibrant community rather than a stagnant league of individuals is remarkable and should not be under estimated by anyone and be something that you are all proud of.

SM could seriously learn from what goes on in this league to make REAL improvements to the game platform, something which I hope to expand on in a future post.

Again my apologies for my lack of brevity but if you have managed to get this far thank you for reading and take care.

Juventus - Season 2 - Transfers

Juventus Get The Ball Rolling

Juventus today unveiled new signing William Carvalho from Sporting CP where the Portuguese international developed from the academy to become one of the hottest defensive midfield prospects in football.

William joins a now hearty squad full of central midfield talent & may find it a slow integration into first team selection, however after a fantastic season with Sporting CP & Houdini Smiff last campaign which included an 18 game unbeaten streak there is little doubt that the Portuguese star will soon be a big name amongst the 'Old Lady' faithful. With the imminent departure of Fabien Delph to Napoli however his chances of first team football are already looking up.

Due to UEFA copyright laws Juventus weren't allowed to post the following video directly onto the Top 100 media site however have been allowed to post a link to the video instead. "What do you expect when you're dealing with Blatter underlings" DP was quoted as saying this afternoon.

ASTON VILLA Season Preview + New Signings!

9 new signings have joined the club since the last post. We introduce them now to the swathe of reporters at Villa Park:

Connor Wickham, as announced earlier, was one of our signings. Just 22, he brings with him the youthful promise that made me spend 5 million on him. He will be the English face of the team.

Billy Jones was the second Englishman brought in. Moving from Sunderland, Jones has the experience and versatility required, which will benefit the Villa squad. Leandro Bacuna had to go the other way, which is sad as we would have kept him but he needed game time which we could not offer.

Markel Bergara, an experienced Spanish midfielder, also came in on the same day, with Ashley Westwood and some cash going the other way. He will help in maintaining the squad unity and team spirit. He has also already played for Stoke in Top 100 which will help us.

3 mil represents excellent value for the Portuguese right-back. Formerly of Dynamo Zagreb/Norwich City, Ivo Pinto will be our rotation right-back and shall expect to play a fair number of games this season.

Again, 4 mil for Abdul Majeed Waris is good business. Only 24, Waris has lot of potential which he could realise at Villa. He moved in from FC Lorient, rejoining his teammate Lamine Kone.

Eder Lopes has already played a few games for Swansea before leaving, but he is back with Villa. 87 rated, he provides us a more direct option. The fee was 1 mil and Libor Kozak.

Villa would like to thank Kozak for his services, 7 goals, 5 assists and 3 MOMs from 14 games last season in D3 is excellent, when he had almost faded out of sight. Sad to let him go, but he is declining. Hope he will get a new team some day.

Tomas Kalas was a rare deal done with a managed team. It is a deal which we are very happy with. Despite cheaper options available, we chose to plump out 6 mil for this talent as we believe he can do very well at Villa. Chelsea dealt swiftly in selling Kalas and we hope he will do well here.

Our new starting left-back moved in from external. Park Joo-Ho is about the same as Aly Cissokho but we feel he will offer more to the table. Decent signing all-round.

Last, but not the least, was the arrival of our new goalkeeper, Marwin Hitz. He is younger than Brad Guzan and an improvement, you could say. Very happy to get him. Can also pop in with a late goal, too.

So that is it for the new signings. One more player could still come in, next week or so, but in that case Gabriel Agbonlahor will have to leave. Promising.

FrankBet has us favourites for 4th (play-offs), however after the disappointment of last season we hope to go one better and qualify directly. The chairman laid before me the following objectives:

Division 3- top 3 (direct promotion)
Cup- 4th round
Shield- 4th round
Youth Cup- Ro16

Finally, the press conference. Briefly, Rahul W spoke about the importance of squad unity and team spirit after the numerous transfer made. He believes that this was necessary in order to freshen up the squad. Given that squad rotation is highly favoured by the manager, all players will get their game time, so that is not a worry. As one of the favoured teams in D3, we must make sure that we perform when we turn up on the field. We need to live up to the pressure and expectation. No excuses in the second season. When asked about whether he would leave for another club, Rahul W was quoted as saying that "there are no guarantees in football. If the right project comes up, I will consider it carefully after discussing with the club. It all depends on what is the right option for the club and I. There is no difference in the ambition showed by good ol' Randy and me though, that we want to take this club to D3. Even if I am not there, someone will. I am happy I rejected the big offer from Dortmund as stability is important at our club and there are things more important than trophies. Still, that is all speculation. I hope to enjoy my season here and enjoy success. Have a good year and enjoy a mince pie". With that, the presser concluded.

That rounds up today's blog post, elongated, but provides an insight into life at Villa. Good luck to all teams in this season. Cheers!

Meet the new boys

Levante today held a press conference to introduce all of the clubs close season arrivals. Before any new players were introduced however, the club took the time to thank goalkeeper John Ruddy for his efforts last season, and congratulate him on a well deserved place as the custodian in the Division 4 Team of the Year.

It was a very proud moment for both the player and the club, and gives us a great incentive to improve for this year.
After the presentation of John Ruddy’s award, it was time to meet the new players.
Conserva Fagner – Joined from Corinthians for £4m plus Sebastian Bassong. The Brazillian, who has been capped by his country at U20 level is expected to compete with Hugo Nervo for the right back position at the club. He will help add some depth to the squad, and is a good age to have a long and successful future at Levante.

Matheus Pereira – The 17 year old midfielder also came in from Corinthians for the bargain price of £360k. Matheus began playing for Corinthian’s academy. He has been considered one of the club's most promising young players in years. Levante will look to continue his development path and hope that one day he can be an exciting member of our first team.

Sidiki Maiga – Another exciting prospect. The Mali starlet joins from AS Korofina for £320k. He was one of the stand out performers at the last U17 World Cup, and again, Levante are delighted to announce the signing.

Guillermo Varela – Joins from Huddersfield for £1.8m. The Uruguayan right back is another with a lot of potential. He was at Manchester Utd before heading off to Yorkshire, but Levante are happy to bring him back into the Top 100 fold, and hope that he can build on the promise that originally alerted Manchester United to him.
Guillermo Varella signs for Levante

Connor Washington - A 23 year old striker who joins from Peterborough for £320k. He is the 4th player Levante have brought into Top 100 from the Posh, and he will be given time to settle in before hopefully making some headway towards a first team place.

Ryan Woods - Levante’s final permanent off season signing. The 22 year old midfielder signed from Brentford for a fee of £800k. This transfer is sill subject to a medical at the time of the conference, but there are no problems envisioned at the stage. The young midfielder has been playing well in the Championship, and is another that has a chance of progressing well if he keeps his head down.

Ryan Woods says goodbye to Brentford
It’s not been the easiest off season for Levante in terms of player signings. The club had three main targets, and have ended up getting just one of them. Of the others, one went to Berlin for £14m after we were blown away in a bidding war, and the second target never even got out of the starting gate. When contact was made, his current club said that they wanted to keep him as one of the players they are looking to build around. As such, we accepted the clubs wishes and no bid was made. The player will continue to be monitored though, and if there is any change in the future, then we will see if anything can be arranged.
It isn’t just permanent targets that the club have missed out on. A deal in principle was also agreed with the manager of a top flight club to bring a promising young midfielder in on loan, but the clubs chairman rejected the deal, feeling that the player in question would be best served spending more time at his parent club.
With the exception of Conserva Fagner, all of the players have come in for their potential to improve and push for a starting position in the future, rather than because they are ready right now. This approach is the only real option at the moment, as we are not in a position to spend huge amounts on marquee signings. There are two other players on the radar, nbut it is unlikely that deals for either will be concluded before the start of the season.
The club have very limited funds, and are not able to compete with other clubs if a bidding war breaks out. As such, we have had to sign Most of the money spent has been offset by the departure of striker Ibrahima Balde to Olympiacos is a £5m move. The club would like to sincerely thank Ibrahima for his goals and efforts with the club last season, and wish him well for the future.
