Man City come roaring back to Div 1 after a fantastic season for the light blues! Of course, with our squad it was fully expected – but then there is actually doing it!
The only time we lost 2 league games in a row was in April, but we put that behind us and started to put together a run that would eventually seal the title with 2 games to spare. We were pushed all the way by Levante, and credit must go to Manager of the Season Andrew Bailey for taking Milan back into the big time!
Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Di Maria, Mahrez and Calhanoglu were the matchwinners for us in terms of goals and assists, but the back 5 of Neuer, Laimer, Savic, Hummels and Blind were pretty stalwart throughout.
Also vital were the players on our bench, as they kept our first XI rating respectable. Players like Semedo (now sold), Muriqui (also sold), Santos and Trincao.
It will take time to reshape the squad into a younger and more attractive outfit, but I’m no oldie snob. I’ve brought in Endo, 31, as has the flexibility to play in central defence and midfield. Early doors we brought in Dragusin, and we have high hopes for him. Trincao continues to impress, and in your youth tem we have the likes of Barco, Gnonto, Ilic, Gonzalez, Traore, Diouf and Doumbia. A little further down the line we have the likes of Sieb, Licina and Sangare so there is much to look forward to and build on!
I aim to enjoy Div 1 this time around. I mean surely it can’t get worse than our last relegation and the long, long strak of losing games…can it? 😉
