Youth Cup Update and Average Team Ratings
29 managers have so far registered their teams to play in this season’s Youth Cup.
All but 3 were helpful enough and/or able to register using the Google Form I made, which I’m asking managers to complete to save time for me as I’m likely to have much less time this season than last.
Even just registering your team name and manager name is helpful as it means I don’t have to do it.
If you can spare five minutes to enter your best eligible players with their ratings, that is also a massive help, as the form automatically converts to a spreadsheet at my end and calculates the team average ratings for me.
If you can register your players' dates of birth, too, the spreadsheet automatically checks that they are eligible to play. You’d be surprised how many ineligible players have been registered already! (Yes, I do message managers to let them know and choose an alternative.)
A couple of managers have not been able to edit their form once submitted. I don’t know why this, and I’m sorry for the hassle of then having to re-submit your team.
If you copy, save, favourite or bookmark the “Edit your response” link at the end of the form once you have submitted it, it SHOULD work! (I tested it just now.)
Average Team Ratings
If Andrew and Gordon could let me have their average team ratings, please! And if anyone thinks their average team rating is wrong, please let me know. The ratings will be used to seed teams for the group stage.
The earliest possible start date for fixtures is next Saturday 16 June, but it looks like we will be well down on numbers this season, so it's much more likely now to be 23 June or even 30 June when this season's Youth Cup kicks off. Which gives us plenty of time to generate a bit more interest.
Saints go Scottish
After relegation to Div 3 English Club Southampton have put their hopes on a return to Div 2 in the hands of Scottish Manager Niall Taylor, we spoke to Niall on how he's settled into his new surroundings.

When the offer came in i couldn't board the plane quick enough to leave Russia, things started well over there and we were early pace setters in the promotion chase from Div 3 but we went on an awful loosing streak, so i contacted my agent and when i hear Southampton were interested I jumped at the chance.

The previous managers have done very well with player recruitment, with the likes of Stark, Milik & Kramaric, my thoughts are the squad does not need much changes only a few squad players added, though we are very short in the central Midfield areas so this is certainly an area we shall be looking to strengthen going forward.

As i have said we wont be seeing huge changes, the previous managers have done very well in that sense, and i also feel there is no 'value' in the current transfer market, I feel this summer has seen some heavily on sided deals, alot of teams have certainly become weaker because of it, some mangers have applied aggressive tactics during the close season and it has certainly paid off, as i write this we have completed 2 deals this morning, this will see a deal with my former club Lokomotiv, which will see Dos Santos depart and joining us will be two players i signed when i was manager there Argentinian defender David Abraham, David will come in as back up and also come into the side if we switch to a 3 at the back system, also moving to St Marys as part of that deal & one for the future is Scottish youngster Scott Mckenna, I have high hopes for Scott and he is certainly one for the future.
Today also saw reserve keeper Joel Robles move along the cost to Brighton and joining Southampton is another player i signed while in Russia Spanish keeper Vicente Guaita and finally and two early transfer was completed days into my stint here, which saw Gueye move to Milan and winger Bofim Marlos move to England, and Leonardo Pavoletti followed me from Moscow with Havard Nordtveit moving to Russia.
I have been delighted to bring these players in but with that comes the need to move others on so we have had to make the following players available for transfer.
Lars Stindl, Andre Hahn, Chadrac Akolo, Joao Novais have been made available for transfer, and we would like to taken Central Midfielders to Southampton is exchange, and at time of writing no other first team members will be leaving St Marys.
Taylor on the Season ahead:
Ive had 2 seasons in Div 3 one with Lyon and one with Lokomotiv and both times we have started well and ran out of steam come the last quater of the season, this is something i hope to put right with Southampton, I've signed a 2 season deal and in that time i hope to gain promotion, though if this is not the case then i will sit down with the board and see where my future lies!
AS monaco
My first season at AS Monaco was below par in terms of transfers and results. I decided not to make many transfers and really see what the team could do. In a tight division 4 we just diden’t have the consistency to really challenge for promotion.
Something had to change ahead of season 2 in charge. So I approached the owners to see if they would allow me to overhaul the squad and was given the green light.
We had quantity but we really needed quality and I think I’ve found that with some big players coming in.
Benzema higuain gundogan and mustafi just some of the names who I hope will gain us automatic promotion this season.
With so many changes it could easily back fire and end up with me being fired.
Preseason has had 2 games and so far so good with a 5-0 win over Ajax and a 3-1 win over dinamo zagreb we seem to be scoring goals. I can only hope the boys can do this over the long season.
CSKA New Manager Phill Walters Press Statement
Firstly I’d like to say it makes me immensely proud to get the opportunity to manage CSKA Moscow in Top100. I am very much looking forward to taking over and getting started. It has been a crazy 48 hours settling in but thanks to the Chairman Yevgeni Giner for showing faith in me here.
I arrive at CSKA with a squad after assessment that I feel is very strong, I can only thank a friend to me in the GW Bruin for the hard work he has put in previously and also admire the work done by Fred Dodger in previous seasons notably by bringing a Division 3 Title to CSKA.
I can not say at this time completely wherever there will be any big movement in terms of personal. It is looking unlikely as I am very happy with what I have currently seen but me and my team will continue to assess what might be needed and get more of a grip in the current transfer market.
Over the seasons CSKA have jumped between Division 2 and 3, ultimately my goal would be to take them up and keep them there. I wouldn’t want to set myself to high targets to begin with, the chairman has set me the goal of avoiding relegation but I do not think I would be doing the quality of this team justice to just try and achieve that. Ill be looking for a top 10 finish and hopefully push for more.
I do not hold a wealth of experience as a Manager and learnt a lot of my trade and have watched a lot of Top100 through close friend Mark Stewart, I am well aware of his achievements with Hertha Berlin and admired from a far what he was achieving there.
But the time has come now to step out from watching a great story unfold and start to write my own!!

Division 4 Season 8 preview
Welcome to the Division 4 season 8 review, Here I will look at all the teams and their chances this season.
The favourites have to be AS Monaco, their strikeforce wouldn't look out of place in Division 1, Solid in midfield and quality in goal. The only question marks would be over their defence though I'm quite sure they are confident of outscoring the opposition. Last season's 4th place finish is sure to be improved on.

Espanyol will be the main challengers under the new management of Lee Reynolds, a good sound squad with some promising youngsters to boot. Missing out on the play offs last season was a blow but they should push on this season.

Marseille under the leadership of wheeler dealer Walter Gogh should be competing at the top end of the table, sneaked into the play offs on the last day and will be looking to be around the major players. A lack of a top cf could be the thing that stops them but their squad is well rounded.

A surprising shout now but I expect Celta Vigo to hit the ground running after their promotion from Division 5 last season, Maybe one last hurrah for an ageing squad but quality is there for all to see. Expecting big showings from Cech and Arnautovic.

Aston Villa will surely be better this season than last, a 10th place finish. Nick Justice has a very talented young squad, average age of just 23 and players are sure to get better with age. Son and Semedo will lead the young guns and the play offs must be the target.

Another surprise now and another promoted side I fancy to shake thing up are Fc Basel. Promoted via the play offs and with Aspas leading the line they will cause problems. Again experience could tell but a solid spine to the team should end up winning more than they lose.

Levante were so inconsistent last season but I fully expect them to be challenging the play offs this time round. Dario Saviano has plenty of reasons to be confident of a good season and holding on to Fred will surely be the key to a good season. A strong Brazilian core to this squad.

Olympiacos are another who found consistency a problem last season, Dale Bowers will be hoping his players learn from experience and challenge at the right end. His squad has plenty of players approaching the tail end of their career and will be hoping to finish on a high. Tevez and Vela will cause problems.

Fk Partizan manager Mark Gardiner will be hoping his young guns can push on this season. A fantastic array of young talent pushing to make a breakthrough in the first team. Ndidi, Kluivert, Locatelli and Vinicius Junior the stars of his youth team, If they push on as expected a top half finish is a certainty.

Rounding off the top half I feel will be Crystal Palace, The Linder has real quality in his midfield with Lanzini and Townsend sure to provide plenty of chances the big question is whether the ageing Defoe and Ibisevic will get enough goals. Josh King could be the break out player for Palace.

For the first time in this preview we come across a team dropping in to this division. Boca Juniors are that team. Schurrle will carry the hopes of Golden Bear's side and his performances will dictate how the Argentinians season goes. Lazaro is the great young hope but I fear bottom half for them.

Torino could be the big fallers from last season. The departure of Gino could prove big shoes for Tom Parfitt to climb into. An ageing side who may struggle to match last seasons 5th place. Zabaleta, Negredo and Fuchs will need big seasons.

Atalanta managed by T100 specialist in failure myself are going to be unlucky 13th or lucky if you consider we only survived last day of the season last year. I believe however my side is in a lot better shape now, Nani and Guerrero should get enough goals for us to compete and my side is solid in all other positions, injuries and suspensions could dictate the season however and any lengthy spells out for big name players and I will struggle.

Swansea fresh from finishing bottom of division 3 are set to disappoint again. Joe Jordan has a battle to turn the ship around. Peres and Linetty aside the first team lacks real quality. Joe must be hoping a few of his youngsters can step up.

Newly promoted Cologne should avoid the drop, Neil Frankland's side have star quality in goal with the spaniard Arrizabalaga, and enough strength in defensive positions in Vogt and Heintz. However at the other end of the pitch they may struggle a bit. Safety though and that will be a good season.

Another newly promoted side Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk(try saying that pissed) should also survive and Son of Pluto will surely be delighted with that. Their squad lacks real depth but should just have enough about them to survive. Falque will surely carry the hopes of Dnipro on his shoulders.

Stoke will probably be surprised I have them in the bottom 4, they have quality in the side Kondogbia, Mallo, Castro and Robertson amongst them but their squad looks very thin in terms or real depth. Any Injuries to major players and I fear they could drop. This is the one prediction I could get very wrong though.

Az Alkmaar are one of two sides I feel may double drop. Acuna is the great hope with the dutch side but again I feel the squad lacks depth of real quality.

Dinamo Zagreb struggled last season and that may continue. Only two players currently rated 88 or more Sane and Eysseric will be expected to lead the side. A lot of questions remain about the quality of the remaining players, they need a few to step up and prove valuable or they will drop this time around.

Mr Ipswich has landed in T100 and surely has one of the most difficult tasks at hand. His Cruzeiro side lack any quality of note and successive relegations is one the cards. If Cruzeiro survive Mr Ipswich is my shout for manager of the year and the season hasn't started yet. Felipe is the only player rated over 87 and is going to need all his leadership skills to lead this merry bunch of men to safety.

There you go then, these are just my predictions and I'll leave it all up to my fellow managers to prove me wrong. Don't take any offence by my predictions(as some of you may already know from previous blog piece and my addiction with Gambling I'm not very good with my predictions as a rule but 250 days today gamble free and more importantly mentally in a much better place)

A New Direction at Atletico!
After their relegation from Division 1, Atletico Madrid seem to have completely changed the squad structure and their approach to the forthcoming season. Many expected the plan would be to bring in some more top players to immediately return to the top league. However, this isn’t what has happened. While the team are targeting promotion, a long-term project has been started with the introduction of several high potential youths who can also have an impact on the first team. The club has maintained a high-profile squad whilst also implementing improved depth with huge ability for the future. Since arriving, Earle has seen close to 20 players depart with over 15 arriving, which makes sense seeing as he won the Wheeler Dealer Manager Award for last season. Fans have had mixed feelings about the new direction, but the club are certain that they will be successful.
Whilst Atletico have one of the strongest squads in the league, Earle is also aware that several other teams will be right up with them challenging for the title and promotion spots. Wolfsburg, AC Milan and Borussia Monchengladbach have all been identified as their biggest competitors but Earle has also acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the league.
“Sure they have very strong squads at this point of the season, as do we, but that means nothing if the mentality and cohesion isn’t right. It would also be foolish to think they are the only teams who will challenge this season, Benfica are always improving, Ajax have a good looking team, and Hertha Berlin are going for their fourth consecutive title! And there are gonna be 13 other teams all looking to beat us week in week out and challenge all the way through the season, so to focus on a few, and think this will be an easy season, is the complete wrong attitude”.
Atletico will kick off their season against newly promoted Galatasaray SK at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid. Earle has said it’s a fairly good opener in front of their home crowd but will be wary of the threats that the Turkish side have. Zenit (away), Valencia (away), Genoa (home) and Monchengladbach (away) make up the opening games of the season for Los Colchoneros. The domestic draws have also been tough as Earles side will face fellow Division 2 sides Villarreal and Genoa in Round 1 of the Cup and Shield. The team are also set to enter the World Club Cup and Youth Cup for the upcoming season.
The Ins and Outs.
One of Earles first challenges was to open up space within the team to allow for his planned arrivals. This saw seven members of the youth squad sold within a few days. These included Tony Ralston, Srdjan Babic and Hugo Keto.
The first major deal to be agreed certainly highlighted the clubs new direction as Bernardo Silva and Lucas Hernandez were sold to Juventus in exchange for five new additions. The biggest name arriving from Italy was Goncalo Guedes. The 21-year-old is being tracked by some of the biggest teams around but was glad to join Atletico where he could potentially break into the first team. Mahmoud Dahoud, Lucas Tousart, Barberan Maycon and Martin Terrier, all also switched to the Spanish side and have completely reshaped the youth squad.
Earle was quick to add further first team and youth depth with the sale of Paco Alcacer to his former side Espanyol in exchange for Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ezequiel Barco and Andriy Lunin. Alcacer
made 27 appearances last season but it wasn’t enough to keep him at the club. Doucoure will add further support to the midfield while Barco and Lunin were both favourites of Earles in his time at Espanyol. The dealings with his former side didn’t stop there, however, as Atletico swooped in to sign 30-year-old Marwan Hitz in exchange for Nicoals Schiappacasse, Phillip Menzel and Bozhidar Kraev. The Swiss was also signed by Earle at his former club but made just one league appearance. Many have questioned the move but his new manager has come to the defence of Hitz, claiming how important he will be to the club. “We have a great goalkeeping situation at the moment. Gianluigi (Donnarumma) is one of the top keepers around and is still not even 20. Andriy (Lunin) is another who has been improving massively recently and, again, hasn’t even hit 20 yet, and neither has Filippo (Marricchi). Having such a young set of keepers has positives and negatives, Marwan (Hitz) brings a whole new dimension to that. He can act as a tutor to them and they can learn from his experience. I’m also aware that anyone can go through a tough patch so having extra cover between the sticks is always a huge boost to the team”.
Standard Liege were able to sign John Stones and Julian Draxler after both were deemed excess by Earle. In exchange Matias Vecino and Hector Bellerin joined along with youth forward Emmanuel Dennis. Bellerin will fill a vacant spot at right back which had been half-heartedly filled by Jose Gimenez last season, the Uruguayan will now be played in his preferred role along side Aymeric Laporte at centre back.
This decision left Shkodran Mustafi considering his future. The German was a key member of the squad last season but wasn’t happy with a reduced role and was made available. There was strong interest from Liverpool, FC Porto and Roma but the 26-year-old will join AS Monaco. A key aspect of the sale was to bring in a replacement defender who would be happy to play a lesser role within the team. Milos Veljkovic fit that role well and has already worked with Earle during his time at Espanyol. The 22-year-old will likely act as the 4th choice centre back behind the starters and Andreas Christensen. Martin Montoya will also move to Madrid. The ability to play as a right back and left back will make him a useful acquisition and the 27-year-old could put pressure on Hector Bellerin and Jose Luis Gaya for a starting spot. The deal will also see Andreas Pereira head to Spain. He has also worked with Earle before and has a good relationship with the Englishman. His move wont be completed until mid-season but he will be on loan until then.
Theo Hernandez joined Draxler and Stones at Liege after the Belgians tabled an impressive offer. Mouctar Diakhaby, Arne Maier and Ferreira Evander will all bolster the Madrid youth squad after moving in exchange for the left-back. Earle has said Diakhaby will be key to the youth cup team while Maier could also play an important role.
FC Midjylland has sold Mads Thychosen to Atletico for £600,000. The 20-year-old can play anywhere on the right making him a useful addition. It is expected that he will compete with Robert Gumny for the starting right-back spot in the youth team.
Earle wasn’t done in the market and has now made a move which he has called his biggest risk in the market so far. Christian Pulisic will become a member of Earles new build. The 19-year-old has only made 2 league appearances in four seasons for Bayern but will be a key member of the first team in Spain. Bayern will receive Mateo Kovacic, Luka Jovic and Manu Garcia for Pulisic making it one of the biggest fees Earle has ever paid for a single player but he feels it will be worth it.
“Christian (Pulisic) is a great player and has an amazing future ahead of him. We’re giving a lot for a fairly unproven player but he will have my full support while here. I expect he will be able to make a big difference and his arrival will be a boost to the whole squad”.
This looks to be Earles final deal as he now has a squad which he believes is fully capable to compete for the league while maintaining a young starting squad.
Season Targets.
The chairman of the club has said he expects an immediate return to Division 1. A target which Earle has agreed is realistic.
“With this squad, we should be achieving promotion. But its a new environment for a lot of these players and we will be putting a lot of faith in some fairly inexperienced lads, but I think they will cope and I think they will handle it well”.
While league targets are high, Earle has said that the Cup and Shield aren’t of major importance this season and he wont be willing to jeopardise success in the league for either competition. He has also said that there is no pressure on the players in the World Club Cup, but that it is more an opportunity for them to impress him and potentially move up in the pecking order.
There is one other competition that Earle is keen to do well in. And that is the Youth Cup. After having to build a squad from scratch at Espanyol, Earle was very happy with the youth side he inherited at Madrid. Add into that the new signings and there is a good chance at a strong fight for the Under 21s. Gianluigi Donnarumma has been named as the youth captain despite being linked with a move away from the club. However, Earle has now said that the Italian is almost certainly going to remain at Atletico.

New Torino boss Tom Parfitt has today spoken to the press about his time at Benfica, what happened with Villarreal, his hopes for the future with Torino and what being in Italy could mean not just for himself, but also for other managers.

“Firstly, apologies for my tardiness, but it was hell trying to get in here today. It was like the whole of Italy had come out to welcome me. Not that you could blame them though, it’s the first time a manager of my calibre has set foot on this fair land.

Honestly, in hindsight I think I did an outrageous job with Benfica. The squad Nuno left behind was young, to the point that during training, we had to take time out of skills practice to teach half the squad the green cross code.

On top of that, some of the departures rocked the boat a little. Maybe they should have finished a little higher in the league, but at the end of the day, as a wise man once said, you don’t win anything with kids. That said, I’ll be looking to bring a few younger lads to Turin. I also think it’s fair to say that if you look at what I did with Benfica, and combine that with the time at Levante, it’s at best unlikely that the Iberian Peninsula will ever see a better manager.
That’s actually why I was only at Villerreal a matter of days. Beddows saw the transfer deals I had made, and knew that once I was back in Spain, Real Madrid would instantly become at best the second side in the country. With that in mind, he got me forced out of the club before a ball had been kicked. On the other hand, he was instrumental in getting Doug Earle in at Atletico Madrid. Not only that, but apparently some joker called Broon is being hand-picked for the gig at Villerreal. It’s unbelieveable really, but that’s the way it goes in the World we live in.
Speaking of Broon, I found something that is more exciting than watching his teams play.

I’ll tell you something though, I’d have loved to have been a fly on the wall when DP found out I was coming to Turin. He must be absolutely shitting it. He’s already come out and said that there will be no loan deals or cross city link ups between the two clubs. To be honest that is absolutely fine by me. Who does he have that would even get in the team here anyway? Kinnear did an amazing job putting the foundations in place, and now it’s up to me to build the rest of the mansion on top, and if there is one thing I know about building mansions, it’s that you don’t get very far by borrowing bricks from somebody named after a move performed by an athletic young lady in a skin flick.
I bet Franko over at Genoa is changing his pants a lot more regularly now as well. He’s another one that knows that their time as the big dog in Italy has come to an end. They’ll be dogs still, but not big ones. They’ll be the sort you find licking its gonads in an alley behind a restaurant hoping for the leftovers out of the bin at closing time.

Bottom line is that they both know Torino will win the first division before either of them do. We’ll be the next Italian side to do it. We might even be the first Italian side to do it, I haven’t been arsed to go through the history books and check. All I know for sure is Juventus are more likely to blow it than your missus, and AC wouldn’t have come near while Beddows was in charge because he’s shite.
I don’t normally do predictions, but next season put your money on Torino winning div 4, and Levante coming second with Villerreal winning div 2. It’ll happen, and I’ll be the first manager to be promoted with three different sides in the same season. We’ll probably win a cup as well. Maybe even two and start off with a cheeky treble. I reckon that should get me recognition off the Pope, and maybe one of them cool superhero Popemobile cars that he has.

As for the rest of them, who else is there to worry about? McLean is a decent manager, but even he’s going to have a twitchy bum when he sees us coming up the divisions. Nuno, he’d love to be me, but the fact is that he isn’t even fit to lace my shoes. He’s not even fit to lace his own shoes. Actually, I sent one of my scouts to spy on his training methods at West Brom, and they took a little photo for me. I'll share it with you all so you know what he's telling his players.

Doug, did well at a small club, but doesn’t have the stones for a big one. He’ll be out of a job at the end of the season.
Lee Reynolds is a good lad, he might go up with us and Levante. I guess the only others to consider in our division are Walter, but he’s another DP, can’t wait to blow it, and the Justice League at Villa.
Nearly forgot to mention PMW at Santos. He's stillin div 5, but I miss the old boy. We used to have a good rivalry and banter, so hopefully he can get sorted out and start moving up the divisions as well. If not I might nick his job once I’ve created the un-beatables here. He’s got a player I’d like actually. We haven’t made an offer yet, but I’ll be getting in touch and I reckon he’ll be accepting the offer we make. If he doesn’t then I’ve got a large sock with a few snooker balls tucked inside that should help him reconsider.
All in all, I'm delighted to be here. The only thing I'm sorry about is that Sao Paulo got promoted. Not because I dislike them or anything like that, more because it would have been good to go up against Wheels and see how far behind me he is. As a guess, he'll be one of the closer ones, but we'd have beaten him with his own cutlery collection if it came to it.

Inter Milan season 7 review

Hello and welcome to my first blog post in top 100 and its long overdue. I think ive been in top 100 for 6 seasons now. I haven't posted because i have learning difficulties, dypraxia, anxiety so find it quite nerve wracking starting something new.
So as you know I took over Inter Milan at the start of season 7 After incredible success with A.S.S.E taking them from div 4 to div 2.
Inter Milan has always been a club close to my heart because I remember watching channel 4's Italian football with my dad as a kid and watching my idol Ronaldo, what a player he was before his injuries.
Anyway enough of that When I took over from Alex I had to make a pretty tough decision. Inter had a lot of players who were getting on and not a lot of players who were wanted by other teams due to there age. I decided in the end to stick with most of the team alex built and try to get automatic promotion. I did though add a few players to the squad they were Holtby, Modeste, Dzsudzsack, Shaqiri I think cant remember if there was anyone else.
We started the season with two 1-0 victory's against Valancia and Sampdoria. This gave me more hope that this team could get automatic promotion. Unfortunately after this it all became very frustrating. The main problem seemed to be that we couldn't finish teams off. This meant that we ended up with the most draws in the league, 15 ! we tried different systems, attacking football, defensive , counter attacking all systems that have worked for me before but it wasn't working with this group of players. The strange thing was our best game of the season was against the team that walked the league sc international.
2-5 win! where did that game come from we couldn't perform like that against anyone else.
its clear that we are not easy to beat because we only lost 9 games all season but yet because we drew so many we only just squeezed into 7th place on goal difference. Unfortunately as I expected we didn't get far in the playoffs.
Where did it all go wrong?
On paper we had several players of decent ability not incredible but should be pushing for promotion. The main problem was if you want to go up your best players need to perform sadly some of them let the club down and have now moved on. The likes of Prieto, Vela, Pepe, Handanovic. were no where near the levels they have produced before. Prieto has now retired but that is not such a bad thing but Motta retiring is a big blow as he has performed very well since coming in.
What Next for inter?
We now have a 2-4 season plan to get back to division 1. We have got the age of the squad down from 31 to 27 with that the ratings of the squad have decreased which means the chances of promotion in season 8 are slimmer but that's the sacrifice you have to take when your building a future plan for the club. we now have something to look forward to as a club, last season when you looked at the squad it was worrying players towards the end of there careers and not enough potential for the future. now as a manager i can look at this squad and think these guys can be here for many years and help us achieve something special and get inter back to where they deserve to be.

MONTPELLIER HSC END OF SEASON REVIEW
WINNERS OR CHOKERS’
Well this is my 3rdseason with Montpellier – having been with FC Twente and WBA before. Where my record was poor to put it mildly, making me take a break from this tough league.
In the time here the team has improved season on season, without a big budget and no big signings.
When I review this last season it is with mixed emotions.
At the start the bookmakers predicted that we would finish 15th. (Not the first time that they have thought we would be nearer the bottom than top). We proved them wrong and finished 4th. But once again we choked in the playoff semis.
To say I was gutted is an understatement and it has taken me a few days to get over this. Having discussed with the president my position it has been agreed that I will have at least one more season here. But for next season we must reduce the squad size and hopefully with that our wage bill.
In general the last season followed a similar pattern to others, poor in defence, but had some good goal scorers. We had 10 transfers in and 11 out (including many part exchanges). This gave us an overall loss of £3m.
In goal Adrian had another poor start to the season but gradually improved as the season progress.
The defence had no one outstanding but I have high hopes for Diaz and Bensebaini for next season.
In midfield the surprise for me was the form of El Kaddouri (10 goals, 9 assists). Next season will be harder for him (rating drop) and it remains to be seen if he stays.
Up front there was more competition to challenge Pelle, and although he finished with highest rating his goal tally was only 6. Hoping I can get one more good season out of him. Both Sala and Ideye had good seasons. However, Ideye has not been that happy with lack of starts and with great regret I have had to sell him.
As well as the players already mention I have high hopes for Paqueta and Piazon, with perhaps one or 2 more breaking into the first team.
So what does next season hold for at Montpellier?
It will be very hard for us to match this season’s performance again, as we do not have the quality in depth. Just hoping the book makers don’t forecast us to finish in top 6. As I know where we finish then!

Here are the first words of Mr Ioli after signing the contract with Bordeaux:“I’m very proud to be here in Bordeaux. Our target of this season is to play a season without problems and then i could evaluate the whole squad for the next season. We are looking for a young and talented players who can grow up our team. 3 Playoff teams sit high in the PVA, Montpellier lead both categories.
Only in D5 could the winner of the league be 7th in PVA. With no relegation it is possible to throw caution to the wind and that is what Montpellier did , charging into a playoff spot. Dnipro in 2nd and Cologne in 3rd deserve the 2nd and 3rd PVA spots. Flamengo and Bremen have the joint second VA of +11 and get into the playoffs.
Celta were the only original top 5 teams not to disappoint their fans and could not do any more, will next season be a repeat?
Predicted 4th place team Twente were 19th and get the wooden spoon in both categories, narrowly ahead of 2nd best West Ham who came 8th and Independiente who should have been on the edge of playoffs but came last.

Liege set the highest standard, but Sao Paulo get the highest VA.
Standard Liege the winners of D4 also get the highest PVA of +6 , remarkable for a playoff bound team. Sao Paulo arguably out did them , with automatic promotion and a VA of +12.
Marseille gained +9 VA and a playoff spot. Zagreb really pulled out the stops to get a VA of +5, the odds on last placed tean , secured their future in 15th.
Espanyol were a disapointing 8th, and got the lowest PVA and VA. Monaco must be dissapointed at finishing only in the playoff but happier perhaps than Villa and Olympiacos who missed out.
Again relegation was sadly predictable with Besitkas, Dynamo Moscow, Stuttgart failing to improve on their starting position. Bordeaux must look to the future as a strong side were relegated.

A whole lot of Hertha for the others as Berlin storm to the top.
Disaster for Leicester and AZ.
Hertha really pulled out all the stop to finish top, they get the highest PVA of +4 , the highest VA goes to Galatasary at +10 in 7th , they were early season relegation fodder so a particular shout for them. The other playoff teams , Chievo and Spartak get the next 2 VA spots at +9. Newcastle and Lazio more or less did what was expected of them and gained promotion.
Leicester were the notable top of the flops at -10 VA and the lowest PVA. Narrowly ahead of Lyon who should have been promoted but avoided even the playoffs at -5 VA and -0.5PVA, tied with PSV who could still get promoted despite a below par season.
Relegation was a bit less predictable but still 3 of the predicted lowest 5 were relegated.

SC Internacional finished 12 spots ahead of predicted and won the league, also with the highest PVA , Everton were also promoted automatically and were the highest originally rated team to do well. Hoffenheim were also 12 places higher than predicted in 4th, but must go through the playoffs. Sevilla another playoff team must also be proud of their performance.
Conversly the decline of AC Milan continues , should have bounced back but finished 10th, with the worse PVA . Ajax who should also have gone up finished 11th , Southampton who should have been in the playoff spots got relegated and have the worse VA.
The main similarity with D1 is that 3 out of the 4 relegated teams were the statistically the worse at the start of the season.

Division 1 Value Added Season 7
Division 1 value added.
Ok this is how it works. At the start of the season I worked out statistically where each team should finish.
From that you deduct the finishing position to give the value added , VA.
So if a team should have finished 8th but came 2nd they get a VA of +6.
However to take into account relevance of finishing position we then add 1 to that and divide by the finishing postion to get the positional value added PVA.
So in the above situation they would get a PVA of 3.5 ( 6+1 ) / 2.
So in Division 1 Roma get the highest PVA finishing 7 spots ahead of predicted, they also have the highest VA of _2 . Barcelona & Bayern are second in PVA which shows the settled nature of the division. Other notable performances are Porto , Schalke and Liverpool , who could have been in relegation trouble but all kept afloat.
Lowest PVA was Man Utd who just underperformed Tottenham who had the lowest net VA. The relegation of Atletico Madrid is the stand out for me as the other relegated teams were those predicted at the start of the season , which begs an interesting question.
