SEASON 22 - MID SEASON REVIEW (Division 3 - League position 19th )

The current 50 player squad has a “best starting 11” of “88”, so I will either need to improve this to “89”, or enhance my formations/tactics. Our youth team has increased from “78” to “79” so that is a small step forward for the future. I2 players have received rises, mainly youth, and one a drop

No transfers for me at the moment as it’s a bit quiet. I have received some below par offers for a couple of my better players, but nothing near an offer I could negotiate. Similarly, any offers from me have been rejected or ignored.

I did put the feelers out to Besiktas for Marshall Munetsi(87) 27yo who is now a regular for Reims in exchange for Lucas Tousart(87) 26yo and Munir El Haddidi(87) 28yo who are both on the decline. The offer was excepted. I also decided that Djordje Mihailovic(85) 25yo is unlikely to receive any more rises and so I sold him. I thought I would take a chance on Ilia Gruev(84) 23yo as he looks a good player at Leeds IRL. Although he is playing Championship football at the moment, I can see this changing next season, and he proved himself in Germany

Our opening match was a tough one at home to the mighty Tottenham(89) and we managed to lose this one 0-2 although the stats were pretty much in our favour.

Following this we played away at Dnipro(88) where we managed to play the wrong formation/tactics and lost 0-3, although the stats were close. A disastrous start losing our opening two matches without even scoring but looking at the stats, we could have obtained 2 points

I started to get a couple of bids for Lino again so I thought I would test the waters and see how serious they are. There were a few bids and some negotiations but I settled on two youths that were offered by Glen Mullan. Out goes Lino(89) 24yo and incoming are Adam Hlozek(87) 21yo of Leverkusen and Jakub Kaminski(86) 21yo of Wolfsburg. Hopefully these will improve our squad for the future but they have already improved the youth team from 79 to 81 for this season

I noticed that our youth keeper had reached 22yo and so I put a successful bid for Lucas Bergstrom(75) 21yo who is on the books of Chelsea IRL. Additionally, our first team keeper Matthew Ryan(87) 31yo has not had a rise since 2015 so I have taken a chance that Antonio Sivera(85) 27yo who is first team keeper IRL at Alavés, will rise above (87). Now that we have two new keepers, it enabled me to sell Cezary Miszta (78) 22yo keeper. I Also sold Jamie Shackleton(82) 24yo as I don’t really see him rising quick enough.

That’s 13 players now that have joined us and 14 that have moved on since I took over at the start of last season, so it’s beginning to look a bit more like my squad

Youth cup, we were the only undefeated team in “Group A”, and qualified for knockout stages. Our six matches were as follows;

(A) Manchester City Won 3-0

(H) Sassuolo Drew 2-2

(A) Augsburg Won 3-0

(H) Barcelona Drew 1-1

(A) Internazionale Won 2-0

(H) Espanyol Drew 0-0

Although our youths have had a great season so far the seniors are definitely underperforming. We find ourselves in the relegation zone sitting in 19th spot and a a long way off where we need to be.

SEASON 21 - (Division 3 - League position 13th )

After having a short rest from TOP100, I spent two part seasons in TOP120, I was offered this second opportunity in TOP100 with Monchengladbach, and I accepted immediately.

Their recent history of the club is all in division 3 and is:

19 9th 14-14-10 56 points

18 5th 16-11-11 59 points

The current 50 player squad has a “best starting 11” of “88”, so the previous manager Simon Thomas, seems to have continually over achieved.

I spent the week looking at the transfer market but unless there were any player exchanges, I would need to sell first. I decided to make a space by selling Beni Makouana(78) 20yo to external as I didn’t believe that he would get any rises this season. I also poked and prodded other managers for some deals but nothing doing and I had only been offered dross for my better players

A deal suddenly turned up where I exchanged THAUVIN (87)30yo, who was on the Tfl, for a little cash and Jaouen Hadjam(81)20yo who plays regularly for FC Nantes. He will help our Youth team.

So we started the season with no new first team players from when I picked this club up so let’s see how we go.

Well, a great win in our opener at home winning 2-1 against Wolfsburg, and although I expected a narrow win, the stats sort of confirmed this. Our second match was on the road where we played a strong 90 rated Internazionale where we were not expecting anything and well, we managed to scrap out a 0-0 draw. The stats were in their favour and our keeper received MotM. A better than expected start, but it’s a long season.

I spent the first week trying to get some internal deals done and now for the second week I have spent time on the external market. I took a chance and sold MIna(87) for a cash offer as he was out of contract with Celta Vigo and had not yet found a club (this will help a division 5 club). I decided to take a bit of a punt on two players around the 23/24yo area and managed to find Pablo Ibanez(83) 24yo where last season he managed to break through into the CA Osasuna first team. This season he has so far played in all four of their matches so I was hopeful that he might make a couple of rises in the next 2 seasons. The second player was Shackleton(82) 23yo who plays IRL for Leeds and has been one of their better players. If he continues to play like this I can see him gaining some rises.

I decided to sell Jones(83)24yo and Nikolasevic(70) 18yo to external to make way for a couple of youths in Bosluk(75) 20yo from Trabzonspur and Archie Brown (76) from KAA Gent.

We entered the youth cup with a “best starting 11” “78”, and had been put in a group with SS Lazio(78), Sampdoria(79) and Besiktas(75) although it has been suggested that not all managers had been honest with their ratings. We were unsuccessful.

One more player exchange where I released Sammy Braybrooke (70) 19yo in exchange for Tochukwu Nnadi (75) 20yo

We have now reached mid season and thanks to our good recent run of 6 games undefeated, have climbed back up to 8th spot with W7, D5, L7 and 26 points. We are one place and two points from the play offs. I consider the first half of the season to have been reasonable and we must concentrate and maintain our form to at least hold this position

Towards the end of the season we were in close proximity to the relegation zone and so we needed a few points. In the last 3 games we managed to beat FC Twente 2-1 away, drew 1-1 at home to Swansea and lost 1-2 at Sampdoria.

Our final position was 13th with W12, D12, and L14 amounting to 48 points. We were a little below where Simon Thomas finished in the last 3 seasons, but it’s a stake in the sand for us

World Club Cup & Shield Finals

WCC Final

Dan Wallace's much improved D2 side came out on top in a two-legged affair with D1 PSG in what could hardly have been a tighter couple of games.

1st leg

PSG manager Malcolm must have thought he had come away with a great result with a 0-0 draw in Berlin, but the lack of an away goal proved costly in the end.

2nd leg

And it was Hertha who duly scored that crucial away goal, Mario Mandzukic equalising Julian Weigl's opener with just under an hour played.

Man of the Match Marco Reus provided the match-winning performance and assist.

A fantastic win for Hertha, who wrote their name into the record books by becoming the first non-D1 team to win the World Club Cup (although the new tournament format helped with that somewhat).

Hertha rounded off the season with a stunning playoff victory in the league to secure D1 football for the first time in the club's history to cap a magnificent campaign.

PSG manager Malcolm finished in a club record third place in D1, before switching to a new challenge with World Club Shield finalists D5 Augsburg for next season.

WCS Final

D5 Augsburg contested the Shield Final in the absence of a winner from the D4 Divisional tournament.

1st leg

Attack heavy Augsburg dominated the 1st leg in Bavaria with three first half goals.

They ran out of steam, though, and conceded what proved to be a fatal late second goal to give Gladbach two precious away goals.

2nd leg

Incredibly, Augsburg boss Johns quit the club prior to the second leg declaring in a statement issued by the club that:

When I joined the club I was excited to develop the strong youth setup that previous manager Ivan Anic had built, and also to bring in some quality and experience to take us up the table. Unfortunately, I didn't read the small print in the contract which said that I had to wear the manager's special lederhosen that turned out to be a couple of sizes too small for me. They created all kinds of problems for me. I hope to be back in six months....

Under caretaker manager Steve Coppell, Augsburg's players looked completely demoralised and outplayed, and a 1-0 defeat flattered them.

Another away goals victory, and another World Club winner who went on to win their playoff final in the league, securing D2 football next season.

Manager Attila Olah has since joined Internacional in D1, while former Swansea, PSV, Fiorentina and CSKA Moscow boss Lee Adams takes the reigns at Gladbach.
