Barcelona vs Leicester City – Youth Cup 3rd/4th Place Play off – Match Report


The first leg of the youth cup 3rd 4th place play off saw a thrilling encounter between Barcelona and Leicester City. The Barcelona manager, Dan Wallace, and his Leicester City counterpart, Doug Earle, both sent out their teams looking for a victory. The game kicked off with both teams showing their intent to attack.

Leicester City had the first chance of the game when Micky van de Ven played a pass to Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian forward hit it first time and it looked like it was going in, but the ball dipped too late and went over the bar. However, they did not have to wait long for their breakthrough. In the 9th minute, Thiago Almada passed to Van de Ven, who took the ball on and unleashed a solid drive towards goal. The ball dipped over the keeper and into the back of the net. The Leicester City fans erupted in celebration.

Barcelona tried to respond quickly and in the 20th minute, Rutter received the ball from Rico Lewis. Rutter managed to get a shot in, but the ball went just over the bar, leaving the Barcelona fans disappointed. However, they did not have to wait long to get back into the game. In the 21st minute, Boving played a pass to Vitor Roque, who hit one towards the bottom corner. The keeper could not get across in time and the ball went in! The game was level again and both teams were determined to take the lead.

In the 23rd minute, Patrick Wimmer went in with a strong challenge on Roque and was cautioned by the referee. Barcelona won a corner in the 41st minute and Roque swung the ball into the box. Gomes had an attempt at goal and the ball went in! The keeper could not quite reach it and Barcelona took the lead for the first time in the match.

The first half ended with Barcelona leading 2-1. Leicester City came out for the second half determined to get back into the game. In the 49th minute, Almada received the ball from Wimmer and hit one towards the bottom corner. The ball went past the keeper and inside the post, and Leicester City had equalized again!

In the 55th minute, Rutter went down under the challenge of Tino Livramento, and the referee took his time before booking Livramento. One minute later, Gonçalo Ramos played the ball to Rutter, who managed to get a shot in. The ball went in perfectly to the top corner of the goal and Barcelona took the lead once again.

Leicester City tried to find another equalizer, but they could not find the back of the net. In the 75th minute, Asllani played the ball to Aït Nouri, who spotted the keeper slightly off his line and tried the chip. The ball looped over the bar, much to the disappointment of the Leicester City fans.

In the 78th minute, Martinelli was booked by the referee for a foul on a Barcelona player. However, he made amends for his mistake just moments later when he lifted the ball over the wall from a free kick and it sailed in over the keeper. The Leicester City fans went wild with excitement as they drew level once again.

Barcelona, however, were not done yet. In the 89th minute, Roque played a pass to Rutter, who scuffed his shot but it looked on target. The ball went right in the corner and the keeper had no chance. The Barcelona fans erupted in celebration as their team took the lead once again.

The full-time whistle blew and the match ended.
